TEXT 1: THE AMAZING STORY OF THE ABERNATHYS IN AMERICA, by Sharon Taylor, Copyright 1983 ; TEXT 2: Genealogical-gleanings (The Early Abernethys in Virginia)
Synopsis of Halbert's: A Review of Sharon Taylor's book appears in http://by102w.bay102.mail.com . The review cites the book's author dividing the study of the Abernathy's story into nine sections: Where Our Ancestors Came From (deemed generic and unspecific); How the Abernathy Family Got Its Name and What the Name Means (useful data as to origins); How an Early Abernathy Was Granted a Coat of Arms (Halbert states that five crests can be found; Talyor only describes "The Abernathy Coat of Arms" - not necessarily belonging to the branch of the Abernathy family portrayed in this portal); The Abernathy Population in the United States (surname groupings found in states); How to Find Your Abernathy Ancestors (generic, nonspecific search/reference material); Tools of Genealogy (all blank forms); A Directory of Abernathy Households in the United States (Halbert states that an updated version can be searched in a Phone Disk CD-Rom today). Halbert notes, with interest, the large concentrations of Abernathys residing in California and Missouri.

THE LEGACY
This website has been created to introduce members of our family to a rich heritage and legacy. Genealogical research has been combined with both anecdotal and historical accounts in order to attempt to provide a complete picture of the individuals that helped make our lives possible. As a matter of humility, we must acknowledge that no matter how far removed one is from an ancestor, they and any of their siblings are each as much a part of us as our mother or our father; for if you remove just one in our direct family tree, we might not have become the person others have come to know, love, fear or respect, let alone one who has come into existence. Each thread here is important as a marker for personality and tendencies, with some vital to life itself.
We can see that our ancestors' lives were as full as ours today - they shared similar passions, many of the same fears, hopes and dreams as we do today. Some of them were historical figures; others were ordinary people leading commonplace lives - hard-working people with homes and children, duties and responsibilities, friends and acquaintances. We know clearly that each ancestor fortunate to survive birth and infancy had childhoods, knew familial love, and many knew what it was to have children and grandchildren.
We know that they had days they did not feel well, that they laughed and cried; that they knew what it was to lose someone they loved. It turns out, the more we come to understand and discern about what we share in a blood relationship with them can teach us what we each can know about sharing our humanity and beliefs with the living.
